The Peanut Plant

image

The peanut plant is unique as the flowers are grown above the ground and the fruits are grown below ground! Peanuts have a long growing season ranging from 100-130 days.

From planting the seeds to harvesting, the growing cycle takes 4-5 months depending on the type and variety.

Seedlings Crack the Soil

Peanut is raised out of the soil, about 10 days after planting. It is grown in a green oval leaf plant about 18 inches tall. The peanut plant flowers are grown above the ground and the fruit is grown under the ground.

Flower Appear

A yellow colour flower is grown about 40 days after the planting. The flowers pollinate themselves, as the petals fall off and peanut ovary begins to form

Developing

The peanut plant enlarges and grows down away from the plant forming a small stem that extends to the soil.

Plucking it

When the plant gets mature the peanut is ready to harvest. The soil has to be not too wet or too dry.
